The Swachh Bharat Award 2025 is part of the Swachh Survekshan, India’s biggest cleanliness survey. Run by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, it assesses how clean and healthy cities across India are.

Over 94% of homes in Ahmedabad separate wet and dry waste. Wet waste like food is used for composting, and dry waste like plastic and paper is recycled.

More than 70,000 households even do home composting!

Ahmedabad makes money from waste! The city earns:

• ₹2.5 crore from biogas made from wet waste

• ₹1.5 crore from recycling dry waste

This shows that waste is not just garbage—it’s also a resource!

3. 🗑️ Clean-Up of Old Garbage Dumps

Ahmedabad has cleaned up its old dump yards and garbage mountains. This is called dumpsite remediation. The city scored a full 100% in this category.

This makes land reusable and reduces pollution.

Clean cities also need more trees. Ahmedabad has a big green goal: Plant 40 lakh (4 million) trees this year!

So far, over 5.8 lakh saplings have already been planted.

The new policy also says:

• Every new town plan must have at least 5% green cover

• 1% of that will be urban forest using the Miyawaki method (dense, fast-growing forests)

• More rooftop gardens, biodiversity parks, and tree-lined roads
